Who wrote this, and why it is not a ranking
This page is written by Branding Pioneers, a healthcare marketing agency that works with providers in London. We are one of the agencies you might consider, so we have not ranked anyone, ourselves included. What follows is what we think you should check when choosing an SEO company for doctors in London, the rules that apply here, and how we would run the first 90 days if you hired us.
The London healthcare market
London runs on an NHS-plus-private split, and the marketing opportunity sits in the private and self-pay segment — growing fast as NHS waiting lists push patients toward paying out of pocket or through Bupa/AXA. The Harley Street cluster concentrates private specialists, and self-pay is strongest in private GP, dental, fertility, orthopaedics and dermatology.
The regulatory frame is strict: GMC guidance, ASA/CAP advertising rules and GDPR all bound what you can claim and how you can track. Search is English-first across a highly multicultural population. The practical edge comes from credible, compliant positioning aimed at self-pay intent — capturing patients at the moment they decide not to wait — rather than the aggressive claims that get pulled down here.
How patients in London search and choose
Patients move between NHS and private care. Private search is led by treatment and price ("private MRI scan London cost"), and patients check Google reviews, Doctify and Top Doctors before they book. Many compare self-pay prices across several clinics, so clear fees and fast booking matter more than brand.
The rules that apply in London
Health advertising follows the CAP Code, enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority, and objective claims need evidence on file before they run. Doctors follow the GMC's guidance on advertising their services, providers are registered with the CQC (which you may reference but not misrepresent), and medicines and devices fall under the MHRA. Prescription-only medicines cannot be advertised to the public at all, which shapes how aesthetic and weight-loss clinics can market.
Any agency you hire should be able to explain these rules without looking them up, and show you how it checks every ad and page against them before it runs. Our summary is on the UK healthcare advertising rules page.
What an SEO company for doctors should actually do
SEO for individual doctors is a distinct discipline from agency-scale healthcare SEO. The job is built on the doctor's own E-E-A-T — credentialed author profiles, hospital affiliations, condition and procedure pages, a fully-optimised Google Business Profile, and the NMC disclosure line (name, qualifications, SMR/NMR number) on every post, since the NMC's 2026 guidelines bar doctors from requesting reviews or self-promoting — plus a fight most clinics overlook: ranking for the doctor's own name, where Practo, Justdial and hospital directory listings often outrank the doctor's own site. There's no paid shortcut; medical (YMYL) results take roughly four to nine months of compounding work, and thin content gets buried by Google's health-quality systems.
The buyer is typically a solo practitioner or small practice who wants to own '[specialty] near me' and their own name in search. The concern to test: can the partner show real medical-content depth and a plan to reclaim the doctor's name from directories — or are they selling generic local SEO with a stethoscope sticker on it?
What to look for
- Experience with individual doctors, not just hospital websites
- A plan for your name searches, your speciality and your procedures
- Content written with you and reviewed by you, citing medical sources
- Honest timelines: months, not weeks, for competitive terms
- No guaranteed rankings and no fake or incentivised reviews
Ask for named clients in your specialty you can speak to, a sample monthly report, and the exact scope of the first three months. Be wary of anyone who promises a number of patients or a ranking position before they have audited your accounts.
How we would run your first 90 days in London
This is the plan we would propose. The audit in the first weeks decides the order, and nothing here is a promised result.
- Days 1–30: audit what patients find when they search your name and speciality in London, fix your Google Business Profile and directory listings, and set up Search Console tracking.
- Days 31–60: profile page and the first procedure and condition pages written with you, structured data for you as a physician, and review handling that stays within ASA and GMC rules.
- Days 61–90: more procedure pages, internal links and local citations, and the first monthly report on rankings, traffic and calls.
What it costs
Our own fees are from £1,100/month on the Practice tier (3-month minimum) and from £3,700/month on the Hospital tier (6-month minimum); Enterprise is scoped custom (12-month minimum), with ad spend paid to the platforms on top. Below about £1,200 a month in ad spend, paid campaigns rarely produce enough data to optimise. Your proposal confirms the scope before you commit, and after the minimum term the engagement runs month to month.
